Été du Canal festival offers cruises to feast upon homemade brunches by the team of Marmites Volantes on the Henri IV, the biggest boat of the fleet. An option since 2015, the brunch cruise on the Ourcq which is now an essential component of Été du Canal festival will certainly be back in 2019! While you're impatiently waiting, check activities to do around rivers and canals and gourmet activities.
Marmites Volantes, consists of two restaurants (one in the 19th district and the other one at Mairie de Montreuil) and is an extremely clever concept : delivering full hot lunch-time meals, in small sized containers to companies. These containers are directly inspired by the Indian dabbas of Mumbai that carry 400,000 full meals all around the Indian metropole each day. Delivery is done by scooter.
The menus are made only with fresh, organic and local products (sometimes a bit further than Île-de-France for products such as vegetables from Picardie and butter from Bretagne). For the brunch, everything is homemade, even the delicious hazelnut chocolate spread that each guest wants to take back home.
Gazpacho, feta clafoutis, crisp colourful salads, watermelon or melon, granola with apricot or rhubarb jam, carrot cake, brownie... The Marmites Volantes team got the idea of creating an original vegetarian menu, both delicious and copious, made with quality products. They are put together each week-end by Sophie or Beto, the chefs alternate their cooking skills in the kitchen of the Henri IV.
The meal is served on the boat. You can go up on to the upper deck of the Henri IV at any time to enjoy the scenery or to discover the street-art frescoes on the banks of Canal de l'Ourcq. Do not hesitate to ask the Seine-Saint-Denis Tourism board team all you want to know about the architecture.
The atmosphere on the boat is convivial and friendly. We congratulate the team on their availability and efficiency, of Yann or Théo at your service ... Is it a brunch or a lunch? Is it a cruise on the Ourcq or a bit of a holiday in the countryside? As the blogger Marie says, we are "at the crossroad of several concepts".
Ideal for lunch with the family, a hen or stag night or simply a lovers’ brunch, you know what to do to enjoy the journey…
It is the season to picnic on the water’s edge ! With family or with friends, enjoy a brunch on the water, along the Paris bassin de la Villette and canal de l’Ourcq, every Saturday and Sunday this summer at 1pm.
Products that make sense and fill the senses, such is the motto of Marmites volantes, your chefs for the day on bord the Henry IV.
As part of the été du canal festival, gourmand cruises invite you to discover the diversity of landscapes along the canal all the while revelling in a vegetarian tasting brunch served in a single small pan. Inside it, a menu freshly prepared the same day from fresh products and organic and market vegetables grown locally.
A vegetarian dish, complete and well-balanced with, for example, lentil salad, salty clafoutis, seasonal vegetables, tabbouleh… choice can change according to market arrivals
For alcoholic drinks, you can order craft beer from the group "les Dîners Bons", that will be present throughout the cruise. This group favours and promotes brewers from the Paris Region. They will introduce you to a different brewer each week-end.
The marmite concept has been developed by the team in Marmites volantes, a restaurant in the 19th district of Paris with a "little brother" in Montreuil. Marmites volantes also specialises in delivering meals to companies thanks to its famous small patented pans. The company mostly employs those integrating into the world of work and pays particular attention to the choice of its products : organic and market vegetables grown locally, organic dried products and dairy products from a Breton cooperative.
