The venue Maison populaire located in Montreuil is like a beehive, where the process of distribution and creation in the field of visual arts – artworks and multimedia –, the music programme on French songs and world music, echo the hundreds of multidisciplinary workshops on offer to the 2,500 members. Weekly seminars concentrate on human sciences and philosophy to help us to reflect together upon this world in perpetual movement.
Since 1995, it has hosted contemporary art exhibitions where renowned international and young promising artists meet up. Designed like a laboratory, the art center is a place of research and experimentation to test the different working hypothesis.
Each year the program is entrusted to a new commissioner. Even though the curators in charge of the artistic programme of the exhibitions are young, they are among the most active on the scene today. Artists who performed at the venue : Claire Le Restif, Jean-Charles Massera, Gérard-Georges Lemaire, Estelle Pagès, Yves Brochard, François Piron, Emilie Renard, Aurélie Voltz, Christophe Gallois, le collectif Le Bureau/, Florence Ostende, Raphaële Jeune. The three successive exhibitions of which the curators are in charge, are, for them, the opportunity to carry out a major scale event successfully, with the publication of a catalogue at the end. These opportunities open doors for them for their artistic career in the future.
