Charles d’Evreux, Count of Etampes (1305 – 1336), son of Louis, Count of Evreux and Margaret of Artois, sister of Jane, Queen of France (Jeanne d’Evreux).
This recumbent effigy comes from the Cordeliers Convent where it was topped with a monumental structure made of a painted vault laying on six sculpted pillars.
This masterpiece of funerary art is different for the other ones thanks to the multiple details, such as the rose crown put in the deceased’s hair and the precision of the sculture. A lion is lying at its feet.
