Galerie d'art contemporain Thaddaeus Ropac Paris Pantin presents an exhibition dedicated to the paintings of Alex Katz, presented at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini during the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.
This American figurative artist, associated with Pop Art, creates prints, paintings and sculptures in a sober style, with clean lines and flat tones of color.
This exhibition brings together three major groups of works produced between 2021 and 2022, illustrating three key aspects of Katz's artistic practice, whose career spans seven decades. Among the works on show are creations inspired by American stylist Claire McCardell, as well as large, close-up depictions of oceans in dark hues and meadows in shades of green and yellow.
The Pantin gallery devoted an exhibition in 2024 to Katz's print work, in 2021 to the painter's water-themed works Mondes flottants/Flotting World, in 2014 to Alex Katz's portraits. Several of his paintings have been shown in group exhibitions such as 30 years in Paris and Déjeuner sur l'herbe.
