The Philharmonie de Paris puts the spotlight on video game music, which has undergone a meteoric rise in technological, creative and economic terms over the past half-century.
Video Games & Music, La musique dont vous êtes le héros, shows the evolution of music in video games, from the first beeps to game "soundtracks" played live by philharmonic orchestras or composed by renowned artists.
Video games now play a major role in pop culture, and have become an ideal terrain for musical experimentation. The music of Pac-man, Mario Kart, Zelda or Final Fantasy... immediately conjures up memories of playing games that have won over an ever-growing number of gamers, now numbering over 3 billion.
The Video Games & Music exhibition features playful devices that explore musical interaction in video games, from the arcades of the 1970s and 80s to Just Dance and Omikron. These installations show how videogame music becomes a corporeal and cultural experience.
The Children's Philharmonic is hosting a special event in conjunction with the Video Games exhibition from April 3 to August 30, 2026. “The Sound of Pixels” is a retro-gaming experience that invites visitors to discover the music and sounds of iconic video games from the first 8-bit consoles, as well as the musical works of guest artist Cartridge 1987. Costumes, a photo booth, and other surprises await children and their parents. The tour is included in the admission ticket to the Children’s Philharmonic but does not grant access to the Video Games & Music exhibition.
