Opened on February 4, 2010 Le Wip Villette is a permanent venue dedicated to hip hop culture and arts/society dialogue. It is now called Pavillon Villette. With the Pavillon Villette, the Parc de la Villette reaffirms its commitment to supporting artistic forms that draw their creative energy from the heart of little-known or ignored peripheries.
The vocation of the Pavillon Villette is to develop and perpetuate actions and reflections based on emerging and unusual artistic forms, and to promote fields of artistic creation that are not yet widely recognized, yet which generate social links and are representative of the local community. The Pavillon Villette's vocation is to develop and perpetuate actions and reflections around unconventional emerging art forms, to promote fields of artistic creation that are not yet widely recognized, yet which create social links and represent all kinds of diversity, and to bring together artistic teams, audiences, professionals and social players by crossing practices.
It operates locally and regionally, through a local urban policy, in north-east Paris and the wider Paris region. It also has a national reach, thanks to the Park's public establishment (the WIP will be able to collaborate with artists and cultural players throughout the region).uvre European networks, partnerships with Banlieues d'Europe as well as with Brazil, the United States, South Africa...
It's also a place to support artists, with the Initiatives d'Artistes en Danses Urbaines mission working closely with the Pavillon La Villette to develop new support initiatives for hip hop dancers. The public is also in the spotlight, with the Mediation department building on its 15 years of experience with the Rencontres de la Villette festival, and launching a year-round awareness-raising program with social and educational organizations.
