The Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis is dedicating its October program to medieval times! At the end of each performance, the professional ensembles (specialists in medieval music) will present their instruments and share with the audience the historical and artistic aspects of their programs.
Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 8pm: "Les trouvères entre ciel et terre, sur les traces d'Aliénor ..." by ensemble Alla Francesca. Songs by trouvères from the time of Eleanor of Aquitaine and her descendants (12th-13th centuries) with instruments: cistres, lute, bowed fiddle, harp-psaltery, percussion.
Saturday, October 11 at 5pm: "Sur les pas de Marie" by the ensemble Rue des Chantres (episodes from the life of the Virgin Mary in 13th-century Parisian music).
Saturday, October 18, 4.30pm: "Ay! Amours..." by ensemble Les Métamorphoses de l'Amour (subtleties of courtly love in the 14th and 15th centuries). Instruments: bowed fiddle, guiterne.
Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 4:30 pm: "Beles, Belles..." by the Diabolus in Musica ensemble (feminine reveries of love in chansons de toile and other 13th-century songs). Instrument: bowed fiddle.
Friday, October 31, 2025 at 8pm: "Odyssée pour deux voix sœurs"(Odyssey for two sister voices) by the Dialogos ensemble (medieval sacred songs with contemporary resonance).
Two specialists will be on hand in the basilica to explore the major themes of the Middle Ages: history, religion, society and art. These lectures will help you better understand the links between the monument and its era.
Concerts are subject to a fee from the RMN-Basilique Saint-Denis website , but lectures are free of charge.
