The FRACs (Fonds régionaux d'art contemporain ), created by Jack Lang, are 40 years old. the FRAC reserves in Romainville are hosting an exhibition entitled Gunaikeîon .
The exhibition invites several curators to write their own narratives based on works in the collection. The word gunaikeîon refers to the Greek and Roman houses where women spent most of their time (secluded from the street). Taking the term in reverse, the exhibition aims to be a place of openness for the Frac's Reserves and the Fiminco Foundation's Chaufferie.
The exhibition is divided into several chapters, in which the curators bring the collection up to date through their own eyes, in touch with contemporary society.
Play or Lose by Céline Poulin: in this multi-stage chapter, the voices of several audiences blend together to narrate the world: Frac users, local partners, neighborhood residents and cultural partners, mixing professional and amateur practice.
Mes mensonges sont aussi les vôtres by Camille Martin: taking as her starting point a painting by Jacques Monory (1995), Enigme 17, Camille Martin stages an investigation. Like detective novels and films, the exhibition becomes a space for simulation and speculation. The works on display play with reality and the illusion of reality, their propensity to evoke mystery. The exhibition brings together a young generation of artists to face the works in the collection (1972-2012), in an attempt to grasp what fascinates in these forms that show a lot but don't necessarily say much more.
Ascendant idéal by Elsa Vettier: Inspired by a black-and-white portrait of actress Natalie Portman, signed by an artist, Elsa Vettier proposes a reading of the collection placed under the sign of attraction, manipulation and friction. The works brought together evoke dialogues or repetitions, evoking the dissonance and mechanisms of influence and envy that shape our relationships with others.
Radiance Serum by Jade Barget: Based on Agnieszka Polska's film Perfect Lives, about the Galileo probe's mission to study Jupiter's atmosphere, Jade Barget brings together a selection of works that explore the construction and evolution of the universe.Jade Barget brings together a selection of works on the construction and study of ecosystems with works by guest artists highlighting toxic ecologies. Entitled in reference to the culture of beauty care, Sérum Radiance draws parallels between the emergence of these noxious environments and today's mercantile conception of well-being and comfort.
Learning and escaping by Daisy Lambert : taking Octavia Butler's Afrofuturist science-fiction novel L'Aube as her starting point, a novel in which humanity survives by adapting to radical changes. radical changes, the artist brings together works from the collection and others by artists from the French contemporary scene to explore the world of L'Aube et du crépuscule : what is the world like in our time of multiple crises? L'Aube et le crépuscule will be contrasted to highlight the enduring dynamics of domination and dependency, and the desire to emancipate oneself from them in all forms of society.
Open to the public Sunday, October 15, 2023, 2pm to 7pm.
