St Christopher's Paris Hostel

The Bassin de la Villette is undergoing a major revival with the opening of two new cinemas, the rehabilitation of the Ledoux Rotunda and the provision of a large number of student accommodation units. Numerous bars and restaurants by the canal make it more and more popular as a place for going out in Paris, and a marina will soon be attracting even more visitors. It was in these unique surroundings that the Paris municipal authorities and Semavip decided, in 2004, to establish a youth hostel and a hotel.

The former La Villette Magasins Généraux

The hostel is located in a building designed by the famous architects Chaix and Morel, who were responsible for, among other projects, the Zénith in Paris and the renovation of the Petit Palais. The building is on the site of one of the two Magasins Généraux warehouses in the Bassin de la Villette, which was destroyed by fire in 1990, and is as such a contemporary reflection of its twin just over the lift bridge in the Rue de Crimée. In its east wing it has a hotel, while the youth hostel is in the west wing. The hostel is on the corner of the Quai de la Seine and the Rue de Crimée, at the end of the Bassin de la Villette. With 275 beds it is in essence 4 to 8 bed dormitory accommodation with communal bathrooms. A number of private rooms are also available.
