Discover the Musée Eugène Carrière de Gournay-sur-Marne's 2025/2026 exhibition, Élégantes de la Belle Epoque - Quand la mode devient tableau.
The exhibition Élégantes de la Belle Epoque explores the links between art and fashion during the Belle Époque. Through portraits, posters and sketches, it shows how clothing reflected a veritable social mise en scène. Artists of the period, painters and illustrators, depicted women and their sophisticated outfits, transforming clothing into a key element of their works. Fashion, both a symbol of distinction and a reflection of social norms, is explored as a visual and cultural language.
The exhibition is divided into several sections:
This exhibition features paintings by Albert, Germaine and Louis Besnard, Eugène Carrière, Jules Cheret, Constantin Guys, Friedrich Goldscheider, Fernand Khnopff, Jean Loyer, Henri Martin, Edgar Maxence, Gustave-Adolphe Mossa, Sem and François Thevenot.
The Musée Eugène Carrière opens on Sundays from 3 pm to 6 pm. Guided tours every Sunday at 3.30pm. Admission: 8 euros, free for children under 12. Group tours by prior arrangement.
