FEAR Art in the Age of Anxiety

The Thaddaeus Ropac Art Gallery in Pantin is presenting a group exhibition centered on the theme of fear.

"FEAR: Art in the Age of Anxiety " features works by Georg Baselitz, Joseph Beuys, Mandy El-Sayegh, Valie Export, Harun Farocki, Ron Mueck, Arnulf Rainer, Daniel Richter, Niki de Saint Phalle, Oksana Shachko, Minh-Lan Tran, Günther Uecker and Banks Violette.

The FEAR exhibition brings together works that confront and express the anxieties of our time: war, eco-anxiety, media-driven panic, and the invisible threat of surveillance. Translating this imperceptible feeling into tangible forms, the artists engage in material and sensory explorations and play with staging and iconography.

Thus, VALIE EXPORT transforms organ pipes into missiles; Harun Farocki lays bare the division of labor and the horrors of the napalm bomb; Ron Mueck, Georg Baselitz, and Banks Violette immerse the viewer in a menacing setting that confronts them with their own mortality and primal fears.

But fear can also be confronted with courage: VALIE EXPORT, Niki de Saint Phalle, Joseph Beuys, Minh Lan Tran, and Oksana Chatchko reclaim weapons, turning them into tools of resistance and healing. As Joseph Beuys asserted: "Art must be developed as a weapon."

Opening of the FEAR exhibition on November 7, 2026, featuring the activation of Banks Violette's installation Mirror Wall.

At the same time, the Ropac Gallery is presenting an exhibition by painter David Salle.
