The Galerie du 19M in Paris/Aubervilliers hosts the exhibition Lesage, 100 years of fashion and decoration from September 26, 2024 to January 5, 2025. This event celebrates the centenary of the Maison Lesage, an emblematic figure in embroidery and textiles, which has left its mark on the history of haute couture and interior decoration through its unique know-how and ability to create unique designs.
Founded in 1924 by Albert and Marie-Louise Lesage, then propelled to the pinnacle of its art by their son François Lesage, Maison Lesage has distinguished itself by its creative audacity and technical excellence. The exhibition retraces this rich history through an eight-stage itinerary, punctuated by pieces of fine craftsmanship created for the most prestigious haute couture houses. Each piece showcases the unique features of Lesage creations, highlighting the techniques, gestures and creative stages that have forged the House's reputation.
To immerse visitors in the world of Lesage, the exhibition features an inventive scenography, accompanied by sound capsules. Visitors are immersed behind the scenes of the Lesage workshops. An augmented reality installation also allows visitors to explore in detail a selection of emblematic samples, scanned in 3D, from Lesage's carefully curated collection of almost 75,000 pieces.
As well as celebrating his legacy, the exhibition also highlights new artistic forms born of the dialogue between traditional embroidery and other contemporary mediums. Unique collaborations with fashion designers, visual artists and object designers enrich the exhibition, offering a contemporary vision of the art of embroidery and textiles.
As with previous exhibitions at 19M, workshops, meetings and events are offered for all ages, giving visitors the chance to try their hand at the techniques for which the Maison is renowned. Highlights include the return of the participatory work "Murmuration", conceived by Aristide Barraud in collaboration with Maison Lesage, and a series of three exceptional evening events:
