The video game area at the Cité des Sciences - e-lab is an evolving permanent exhibition whose theme changes every year. This year, for its fifth season, the exhibition explores the theme "Pixels Under Construction".
What if video games became a space to build, explore, and imagine? Through October 3, 2027, the e-LAB invites visitors to explore worlds where spaces are freely designed, transformed, and invented from futuristic cities to 2D mazes.
Each world becomes a testing ground where we manipulate spaces, narratives, and perspectives to reinvent how we inhabit the virtual world. An immersive experience that reveals how video games fuel our imagination and reshape our relationship with space.

A journey back to the origins of video games: relive the golden age of arcades, where 2D graphics and the early days of immersion reigned supreme. A dive into an atmosphere that’s almost gone today, yet remains as captivating as ever. The retro zone explores the origins of building mechanics in video games through iconic titles like Tetris, Arkanoid, and Rampage.
What if you could undo your mistakes? Here, time becomes a gameplay tool: rewind your actions, freeze the moment to refine your strategy, or explore innovative time-based mechanics. A zone where you can manipulate time like never before.
The setting becomes a challenge: it's up to you to solve the puzzle! Test your ingenuity with Mini Metro, Storyteller, Lumino City, and Monument Valley 3. These four games explore original approaches to building and stimulate your creativity to overcome captivating puzzles.
Lose your bearings in disorienting worlds! Climb a brutalist trap in Beton Brutal, play with reality in Viewfinder, wreak havoc in Once Upon A KATAMARI, or explore upside down in Manifold Garden. So many experiences to tackle extraordinary architecture.

The E-Lab is accessible with an Exhibitions ticket and is recommended for ages 7 and up. Exhibition in French, English, and Spanish.
