Richard Serra, Transmitter

Date From to
Richard Serra, Transmitter

The Larry Gagosian gallery at Paris-Le Bourget is exhibiting the monumental work of Richard Serra called Transmitter. This monumental sculpture of 4 meters high, 17,7 meters wide and 18,2 meters long is in corrosion-resistant steel Corten.

Superstar of contemporary art for his space-filling steel sculptures, Richard Serra (b. 1938, San Francisco; d. 2024, Orient) creates imposing, immersive installations. Depending on the visitor's point of view and the play of light and shadow, his large vertical surfaces - at once aerial and deeply rooted - appear in different lights: To each his own experience, while the sculpture remains the same. But there's one constant: astonishment and, by extension, the realization of visual power.

A musical performance of Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time" was offered during Richard Serra's exhibition.

A retrospective of the artist's films and videos was organized in early 2022 at the Centre Pompidou's Cinema 2 in Paris. These cinematographic works come from the collections of the Musée Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
