The Shoah Memorial in Drancy presents an exhibition on the eve of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Paris 1924- 2024: Les Jeux Olympiques, miroir des sociétés looks back over a century of Olympiads, tracing the history of the Games from the angle of prejudice and discrimination, but also of the fight against these through the values of sport.
The exhibition features numerous archive documents, including emblematic photographs, excerpts from the sporting press and personal accounts. The instrumentalization of the Olympic Games for political ends shows that they reflect trends in society. Paris 1924-2024 looks back at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games under Nazi Germany, and at the athletes interned at Drancy during the Second World War. Beyond the darker aspects of the Games' history, the exhibition also reveals the sporting values of friendship and excellence, which are levers in the fight against racist, anti-Semitic and sexist discrimination.
The Shoah Memorial is joining forces with all the events dedicated to the Olympic Games proposed for 2024.
The exhibition is open to the public from Sunday to Thursday, 10am to 6pm. Guided tours are available on certain dates.
