Grotte Chauvet : une Aventure Scientifique Exhibition at the Cité des sciences - Paris la Villette in 2024 and 2025.
In 1994, three speleologists made an extraordinary discovery: a cave with over 1,000 paintings and engravings dating back to the Palaeolithic era. The site reveals fascinating traces: footprints, bones, the remains of fires, drawings... all testifying to the cave's occupation by cave bears and humans.
The exhibition plunges you into the reality of researchers' work around the Chauvet cave. For only four weeks of the year, scientists can carefully observe the cave from the inside, examining every detail and every painting, before continuing their work on the surface. Experience their day-to-day work: try out their working conditions, put on their equipment, discover their tools and technologies, analyze fingerprints, make fossilized excrement talk...
Discover thematic areas linked to the cave: interdisciplinary research, living beings of the Palaeolithic, cave art.
During your visit, slip into the shoes of the scientists studying this archaeological site.
During your visit to the Cité des Sciences, don't miss out on other exhibitions, such as l'urgence climatique or for children : Dancing!... The Cité des enfants offers scientific discovery activities for all ages!
