The Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis hosts a photography exhibition entitled "Nouvelles Reines" (New Queens). Dionysian artist Sandra Reinflet has created photographic portraits of local women. Reflections of stained glass projected onto their faces highlight these contemporary queens.
The Nouvelles Reines – women of today – are embodied by residents of Saint-Denis and Aubervilliers whom the artist met in various social structures. Texts produced during writing workshops with Sandra Reinflet and her models accompany the portraits exhibited at the Basilica, highlighting the courage and resilience of these women.
The tour features 32 works, corresponding to the number of queens of France buried in the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis. The 31 portraits created by the Saint-Denis photographer are installed on the forecourt and inside the basilica in the crypt of the royal necropolis. The thirty-second work is a space reserved for visitors to take a photo of themselves under the reflection of a stained-glass window, thus constituting the thirty-second queen and final work in the exhibition.
Access to the exhibition Les Nouvelles Reines is subject to payment of the necropolis admission fee on site or online.
