The Thaddaeus Ropac gallery in Pantin is dedicating an exhibition to abstraction. Saturation: Abstract expressions 1960-2022 brings together several contemporary artists from two different generations who work on abstraction. Most of the works on display were made especially for the exhibition.
The work of Martha Jungwirth, Wook-Kyung Choi and Dona Nelson, major artists associated with Abstract Expressionism, resonates with the work of younger artists: Han Bing, Mandy El-Sayegh, Rachel Jones, Megan Rooney and Thu-Van Tran. Martha Jungwirth and Mandy El-Sayegh were exhibited at Galerie Ropac in Paris in the fall of 2021. The work of Rachel Jones and Megan Rooney is presented for the first time in Paris. Han Bing, Wook-Kyung Choi, Dona Nelson and Thu-Van Tran have been invited to the exhibition. The exhibition shows two to five works by each artist, paintings, inks, small and large formats, performances...
The name of the exhibition "Saturation" echoes the theory of colors and the definition of saturation by the sociologist Monique Haicault which designates the overflow of information and the emotional and mental overload that particularly affects women. Saturation presents the works of women artists. The point of saturation precedes and triggers the overflow expressed in the works by the technical gesture, the superimposition of matter or the work on the colors.
Opening of the Saturation exhibition on June 11 from 2 to 6 pm. Guided tour with the curator every saturday on July.
