After the exhibition Grandes robes royales des Reines de Lamyne M, the Basilica of St Denis will host this major exhibition in its crypt. Mater, a project by the artist Ariles de Tizi, will be presented in several steps in Saint-Denis and the United-States. This photography exhibition, paintings and drawings will pay tribute to the image of the mother.
"The Queens of France" at the Basilica of Saint-Denis is the first chapter of the project. The artist wishes to give more visibility to women and mothers from migrant backgrounds and help them to fully appropriate public spaces. For that, the artist goes to meet them and listen to their story and then exhibit their portraits on several points in the world, thus offering them visibility and mobility. Six large portraits of Madonna mother figures will be exhibited in the crypt of the Basilica in Saint-Denis. The draped figures in the portraits of mater Dolorosa are the effigies of Queens and princesses in the Cathedral of Saint-Denis. The common thread among these women is exile. Other works will be presented in the local food market in Saint-Denis.
Arilès de Tizi was born in Algeria in 1984. He grew up in France in the Paris region, after fleeing his native country which was the theater to civil war. This self-taught artist started as a graffiti artist. This pluridisciplinary artist, paints, draws and takes photos.
